Friday I hit my second huge run of the week. Another single slow mile!! I have said numerous times in the last week that I am taking things slow and I couldn’t feel better about it.
Friday, was also my 1 year runniversary with a now very good friend of mine. We met one year ago and have run together many many times. So we planned a girls night. She ran my one mile with me and also brought me and AMAZING gift basket…containing many foods (the way to my heart) and some just as good scrubs and lotions!!!
I took this after removing the lotions/scrubs
To return the favor I made us our dinner. It was simply and fresh but very low calorie and tasty! We had broiled tilapia, with rice and broccoli. Oh and bruschetta!! For a whopping total of 374 calories! Yep and we were both stuffed! See eating good foods can be good for you!!

This meal also go to fuel my “long” run of the week! Haha! Not really a long run but it was the longest run of my week so I am still going to give it a title so it can feel special! <–this is my idea of logical reasoning 🙂
Nikia ran over to my house Saturday morning, we both didn’t feel the best. She was suffering from a great case of DOMS and I had a splitting headache. We were apprehensive but didn’t want these little things to make us push our run back. Since Nikia has been running much more consistently she ran a total of 4 miles but the middle two were ran with me. We went slow and with each step my head felt better! Running is such an amazing healer.

After we ran the guy and I took my middle son and one of his buddies out to breakfast. We got a chance to talk to some other good friends of mine for a few minutes before heading back to take care of the house and making sure I could get the piles of laundry three kids create for me weekly!
Today is a lazy day. No working out, no strenuous activity just me and lazy..being bff’s!
Saturday: 2 miles @ 10:31
Oh, on a side note, I discovered these this week…try them!

I have a short list of main goals I want to accomplish in all areas of my life during 2016
- Run uninjured
- Foam Roll
- Strength Train
- Listen to my body
- Take baby steps
- Pay off debts
- Work on personal relationships
These shouldn’t really be that hard right? Well that is just a general outline of what I actually want.
For example, I still want to run a marathon. I feel like I can if I do things right. I am looking toward September, I feel that I can make it happen by then. That would put me at needing to start a training plan by May or so. To me that sounds feasible. That gives me 5 months to get up and around to a good base. Nothing too extreme, just one month at a time.
I like plans, I don’t do well without them. I don’t like unexpected things AT ALL! Seriously, no surprises or I will go completely nuts. Don’t change my running plans, just give me a daily checklist of what I need to accomplish and I am good to go! Hell, I still have a paper calendar, I need it in my life for this reason.
Speaking of plans. I have made a small plan in order to get back to running. I just started working out again on Monday. Monday night I did an Insanity workout which was a little uncomfortable. I haven’t done anything in so long my muscles were not excited about it at all. Naturally I assumed I would be sore yesterday. Which held mostly true. Today is a different story!
Last night I went for my FIRST RUN since November!!! OMGracious! It was amazing and wonderful and cold, I loved it!! Now I know I sound excited so you would think it was some huge run…no no no, not at all. I ran 1 mile. Yep, one! I ran it slow…very slow.
|Slow but not injured!
I know this post has been somewhat…random. But I will finish with this. DOMS suck! If you haven’t been working out, don’t do Insanity one day and run the next in 20° weather! It hurts….a lot!
Do you use paper or electronic calendars?
Race suggestion for this summer? I like to plan early!
Running was not a highlight for my 2015. I ran 10 races for the year, not too bad right? Welllllll kind of. Out of those 10, I shouldn’t have ran most of them. I started having problems with my right foot in March and can still feel a twinge in it now. Not all the time but to an extent, it is there. I am working on building strength in that area now. I haven’t ran AT ALL since Thanksgiving morning and have only just started working out again.

That being said, 2016 is going to ROCK! I completely botch most of my goals for 2015. I got distracted. Very distracted. I was injured, not running full time and getting a divorce for most of the year. Not a great combination. Stress was at an all time high. My kids and I moved to another town and we were working on getting settled and acclimated to a different environment. We had to get to know new coaches and teams as well, so life was…well…to say the least, a little rough. Goals weren’t at the forefront anymore, not my original ones anyway, I just wanted to make the transition as seamless as possible for my kids. That goal became my number 1 priority. Everything else was sidelined.
Now…new year, new goals. Of course everyone has this list of resolutions they put together every year. Health and fitness are always at the top! Lose weight, go to the gym, eat better…blah blah blah. For me, health and fitness is always a priority.
This year I just need to be able to do it without injury. I think I rushed my body last year. Didn’t prioritize strength training and that led to injury. I had this go big or go home feeling about everything. Like I had something to prove. Not this year! I want to do things right! Take it slow, let my body adjust accordingly and then move to the next level.
I have already accomplished so much in my almost full two years back into running. I have run in 27 races and 5 of those were Half Marathons! I have run trail races, relays and fun runs. I have traveled, made new friends and had a ton of fun! Now I need to focus and continue making my life better by having running be an integral part of my daily life.
